Rules Ícaro Film Festival

In 2020, the Icaro International Film Festival will adapt its activities to a virtual modality with few face-to-face actions according to the guidelines of the authorities of the countries where they take place. The objectives do not change and are strengthened in the use of new media and new technologies. The line work of production, training, distribution, commercialization and exhibition of Central American cinema and audiovisuals will continue to be the main line of work.

In accordance with the new dissemination and exhibition platforms powered by the post-Covid-19 and social distancing, the main window for the festival in this edition will be

Central Americans and internationals filmmakers can participate in the categories: feature film and short fiction, feature documentary and short, animation and experimental made between 2019 and 2020.

In addition to the statuette that recognizes the best audiovisual work in each category of Central American and international films, technical-artistic recognitions are awarded to Central Americans in:

  • Best Director
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Screenplay
  • Best Production
  • Best Sound
  • Best Editing
  • Best Art Design
  • Best Female performance

Starting with this edition, special awards will be given to Central American fiction or documentary short films that address issues of Human Rights, Autism and Central American Integration. Each of these categories will have a specific call and regulation.

The final decision of the juries is unappealable. The Organizing Committee of the Icaro International Film Festival  does not interfere in the decision of the juries. The qualifying jury for the 23rd Icaro International Film Festival will be made up of internationally renowned filmmakers.

On September 30th, 2020, the list of the Official Selection will be available on this official page of the festival.

Works in Spanish must have English subtitles, works in other languages ​​must have Spanish and English subtitles.

The nominees and winners (with the exception of feature films) from both  Central American competition and the international competition, will be part of the Icaro National Film Festivals in Central America and the Central American Film Samples in the countries where it is held. The submission to  Icaro International Film Festival supposes the cession of the non-commercial exhibition license for these windows.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to withdraw from competition during any phase of the process works that, with intention, omission or error, have provided incorrect information in the registration of their work or do not meet the technical requirements necessary for its projection and exhibition.

The Icaro International Film Festival is a project accomplished by  Casa Comal Art and Culture in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala and the International Network of Icaro Film Festivals with the collaboration of diplomatic representatives accredited in Guatemala. , governmental and non-governmental institutions, companies and friends of the Festival.
